NORTH EAST AMBULANCE SERVICE PROUD TO ATTEND PRIDE
North East Ambulance Service is Proud to be supporting Newcastle Pride on the 15th – 17th July 2016.
As the Stonewall top performing Ambulance Service in the country and the highest place emergency service in the region, we are looking forward to celebrating with colleagues and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people across the region.
We are participating in a range of activities over the weekend, beginning with staff taking part in the 5k run on Friday night.
On Saturday our Chief Executive Yvonne Ormston will be speaking at the joint emergency services Pride Breakfast alongside Assistant Chief Fire Officer John Baines, Assistant Chief Constable Darren Best, and Mark Nichols, Chairman of Northern Pride.
Following the breakfast a number of NEAS employees and representatives from Ambulance Services around the UK will join thousands of people to march in the parade through Newcastle City Centre from 12 noon
Non-Executive Director Catherine Young who is our equality lead said “Playing an active role in all of the regional Pride events is something that is important to the Trust and employees, It is important for us to use events to reach out to the LGBT community, improve understanding and promote ourselves as an inclusive employer”.
Yvonne Ormston, CEO said “We are very proud to be supporting one of the biggest LGBT free events in the UK calendar. We have a real commitment to equality, our work was validated by our top 50 employers Stonewall ranking 2016 and our work on the Equality Delivery System in 2015 showed we had made significant progress attaining an overall ‘achieving’ grade from the stakeholders and staff involved in the assessment”
“I feel it is important that people are able to be themselves at work and patients feel confident that they will be treated with dignity and respect. Our work in this area confirms our commitment to equality and we look forward to working with stakeholders from across the region to make the North East a better place to live and work.”
