AACE URGENTLY ADDRESSING SAT-NAV PATIENT SAFETY ALERT ISSUES
The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) takes any issue that potentially affects the safety of patients extremely seriously and notes the Patient Safety Alert issued by NHS England this week, regarding delayed updates to ambulance service satellite navigation systems.
We accept that there are some areas of the country where updates to mapping software could have taken place more frequently. The complexity of computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems in ambulance control rooms means that any alterations to software, including mapping, has to be undertaken as part of a rigorous, planned and controlled process. For some services this may mean updates can regrettably be delayed in getting to frontline applications.
AACE is addressing this issue as a matter of urgency through its national working group channels to ensure the four actions identified by the NHS England Patient Safety Alert are implemented before the deadline of 20 August 2015.
