Search and rescue in large wooded area near Angel of the North (20 June)

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a patient at 22.15h on Friday night (20 JUNE) needing help and lost in a large wooded area near the Angel of the North in Gateshead.

"We dispatched a paramedic ambulance crew and a hazardous area response team (HART) crew. When they were unable to locate the patient as calls to the patient's phone kept dropping out, we called upon police and mountain rescue to support a search of the large wooded area, using police drones and foot patrols.

"The casualty was eventually found just over four hours later. The patient was treated for a leg injury and then taken to hospital."
