Governor spotlight: Devon Lawton, appointed governor
Devon, who sits on our governing board as a representative from the Local Resilience Forum (LRF), spoke to us about her role.
"I am based at County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service headquarters, where I work as the County Durham and Darlington Local Resilience Forum (LRF) manager. Alongside this, I am currently studying for a masters in business administration (MBA) at Teesside University.
"It was through my role within the Local Resilience Forum that I was approached by NEAS to become a governor in 2024. The board traditionally includes an LRF representative, reflecting the importance of close collaboration between emergency services, local authorities, utilities, voluntary organisations and other partners. In my role, I support coordination and planning for major emergencies, so becoming a governor felt like a natural extension of that work.
"My aim is to help ensure that our communities are supported during the most difficult and challenging circumstances. Having seen the impact of life changing events first hand, I understand how vital strong partnerships are between organisations such as NEAS and the communities they serve. As a governor, I am proud to support NEAS by helping to strengthen those links and contribute to effective, joined up working.
"Outside of work, I enjoy reading and regularly attend a book club. I love spending time with friends and family, painting, and attending art classes. I also share my home with my pet house rabbit, Quentin Carrotino."
